MAUI - R.I.S.E.
Respect and Integrity for Successful Education
(MoE programme for 15 year olds)

Active Training recognises that mainstream school isnt for everyone.  Some students stop attending school for reasons from, family disruptions to health.  After experiencing a gap in education, students can find it difficult to reintegrate back into large classes and conform to the structure and boundaries that apply within a mainstream schooling system.

This programme has been designed specifically for 15 year old youth and it separates the older Alternative Education students from the younger ones.   The R.I.S.E programmeis for students who have fallen out of mainstream school, but know they still want a career and independent income for their future.  A number of students may also work towards going back into mainstream school if that is what is needed to further advance their career plans.

This programme focuses more on completion of NCEA Level 1 (if not already gained) and preparing them for further training or employment once they turn 16.  Students will work to gain unit standards in literacy and numeracy which will go toward their achievement of NCEA level 1 also learning work and study skills along with a social and personal development focus.  Interactive delivery techniques are incorporated to take into account individual learning styles; assisting with students learning and retention.  Allocated within this programme is recreation, along with health and community awareness promotion.
